Thought I'd share some pictures from a pilgrimage to the grave of 'The Man with the Guitar.'

For me too. When I first went there, my kids were very young (6, 5, 3). While I was there some other people came up, and my six year old daughter told them, "that's the man that taught my daddy how to play guitar." I completely lost it.

Not exactly true, but not that far from the truth. He did inspire me. Took me years to stop sounding like him and learn his real lesson, be yourself.

My oldest, when she was young, would ask me to put on Hendrix at Monterey. Now she's sixteen and so incredibly knowledgable about music, not just the last decade, but the last five.

In fact, she went with a friend to Portland today to a Richard Hell poetry reading.

I may not be the greatest parent in the world, but at least a couple of my kids are infected with passion. I think that might be the best thing I could give them.

And if you have instilled passion in your children you are a good parent indeed. And in a way that too carries on Jimi's spirit.

Thanks for the pics Lefty. When I lived in Spokane, a buddy and I had always talked about taking a weekend trip to Seattle to see it. But we never did. Now I live too far away for a quick trip.

I also am trying to educate my kids on Hendrix and the 60's and Viet Nam and all that. Don't know if it is sinking in, but they are still pretty young (8 and 13). My older boy is getting very good on the viola, but doesn't seem to care much for rock n roll. But I still feel blessed that he has a passionate appreciatiation for music. That's what counts - it doesn't really matter what kind of music.
