Walter Woods bass amps

Has anyone ever played with the circuit of one of these? I know they're mostly famous for using a switching power supply, and a Class D power amp in the newer ones, but I know several bass players that swear by them.

The only schematic I've found is for the '80s MM-100-8 (attached). I'm halfway thinking of building the discrete preamp for this and seeing how it sounds. Any idea what the "F2835" FET in the discrete gain blocks is, or what a replacement might be? Would a J310 work?

I own a couple of them they are killer upright and smooth finger bass amps. Personal a single 10" speaker is best. They are very tight and punchy but smooth. I'm not a fan of them for rock music. Love them on jazz and slow blues.

This one has a different FET, and a regular emitter follower rather than the Darlington transistor in each gain block.

I'd go with a much lower current part like the J201.
