No kidding....Did you look at their stock list??

They have about 30 Zemaitis, several Malmsteen owned Strats, K & M "two rock" serial #1, a Pete Townsend owned Les Paul, 1 each of '58/'59/’60 bursts...all kinds of wild stuff
They also own one of the most valuable Les Pauls on the planet..

Funny you should post that Jelle!
I noticed that Maverick deal in Zemaitis too.

I had the pleasure of holding and playing a Gary Grainger Zemaitis when I used to help out with his band Strider back then.

I looked at the Zemaitis for sale and there she was - the same guitar for sale.

Gary used to play it through a Hiwatt and the consensus ISTR was that his SG sounded better. It was a stunning piece of work and I will never forget when he opened the case and I saw it for the first time. I was only a kid but I have loved Zemaitis since then.

At the time, Rod Stewart took an interest in Gary and off he went to join Rod's band.

I have never told this story before :D So great when time catches up with you again!

Thanks for that post, Tony. I didn't know Greeny was that damaged. Wow, no wonder Gary sold her.

A couple questions.. :?:

In 1986 (when Chris's amp was built) PA's were more than adequate to fill stadiums and large stages with sound reinforcement so why the need for all that power?
One could easily argue that an amp capable of generating 300w of energy would be extremely dynamic and touch sensitive to say the least..
Perhaps we should consider when building an amp for ourselves (when choosing between a 50w and 100w) take into consideration dynamic response, sensitivity, energy, TONE!! As well as the normal argument such as headroom and punch..IMO most guitar players and some builders kind of miss that point when choosing or designing the power needs of an amp...The first thing they think of is volume and headroom and not really dynamic response, sensitivity etc..I wonder how many times Dumble had to explain this to a certain player/customer who wanted one!!

Something to think about Huh!

Gary said on several occasions that he preferred his other 59 (Montrose)over Greenie..
That story where he didn't want to leave that guitar at home on one occasion so he put it in his trunk and then got rear ended (breaking the neck) is a truly sad story!!..
BTW..The whole stolen Montrose 59 Paul is another sad story..

I agree Tony. KOC in TUT 3 talks about why a 100 watt Marshall sounds different than a 50 watt, but he attributes it to the difference between 2 tubes and 4 tubes, but I think there is more to it that that. I think the bass reproduction is going always be better with a high wattage amp, regardless of the volume.

Here's a 600 watt monster

Does anyone know how Maverick aquires all this rare gear. I'm assuming he gets it from the artist and probably moves the stuff to collectors or people in other countries with money to blow.
I believe he was the one listing the black Dumble 412 for $25K on eBay.

If you spend 10 mins going through their website, they have one of the best collections of gear I've ever seen. Did the owner of Maverick make his money in another industry? There is certainly a lot of capital needed to aquire a collection like that.

I'm glad this thread sent me over to Maverick Music's site, it was good to see that an amp I built for a guy locally is on there in some pretty good company :). Granted it is probably the cheapest item they have ever had on the site , it is the Elite Amp next to the 300 SL. It's also good to see it because the guy who had it never paid me for it, haha!! Oh well, it was a really simple AO-35 based amp.

The guy who had my amp uses Maverick as his dealer and he goes to see the guy quite often. Maverick has had some incredible, historic guitars come through there from the Peter Green/Gary Moore Les Paul to the Strat Hendrix (supposedly) recorded Wind Cries Mary with, not to mention the slew of Zemaitis and vintage Gibsons he has had. The guy who owns Maverick's name is Phil and from what I understand he has a Rolls Royce sitting in the garage and the license plates say ZEMAITIS. So he enjoys his really, really expensive toys! I am not sure where he made his money though but I do know he is a dealer to a lot of big names, I think John Mayer is one and I know all members of the Black Crowes do their dealings with him.

I googled Phil Winfield and didn't come up with much. His Linkedin profile doesn't list any previous experience.

Maybe he made his money the old fashioned way, inheritance. There is a Winfield Supply in Charlotte.

It seems strange to have a store with that much valuable gear in a town with a population of 37k. It's 30 miles outside of Charlotte.

I could see a shop like that in LA, or some other large metropolitan area.

Mooresville is the performance engine building Mecca of the country. It could be from one of the cottage industries surrounding NASCAR.

Preamp out of one of your amps into it, and then please….. post a clip!!! :D

Looks like I'm just going to have to build an f'ing Dumble. Even if I only get 80% of the way there tone-wise, I'll have a me a $87,500 amp!!!
