Re: reading schematics Need Direction
I am a little worried about some of this advice. Maybe I am misunderstanding some of the comments. Once again, DO NOT just learn to make a pretty picture...make sure you understand exactly what the picture represents. Knowing that a zigzag represents a resistor is really not meaningful. Seeing a resistor in a layout a make a zigzag on the schematic is very close to mindless and useless. Knowing the hows and whys of every component is paramount. This goes for every component. Leave no stone unturned or you will be cheating yourself. It's like saying you shot a round of 80 while personally placing every ball before you struck it. Almost any basic electronic book will explain Rs, Ls, Cs, and transformers. There is A LOT available just through google for free. That along with basic configurations like voltage dividers, low pass, high pass, and bandpass filters will get you a long way. There are a lot of books that explain tube theory and basic configurations. Akin's site has a lot of great info for free. The goal should be to really learn and internalize that information. The schematic part will come for free in that process. Ask questions whenever you feel like you're spinning your wheels. I am sure many of us will be happy to help. Enjoy the process.

Gotchya Vibroking,Ive got a few or even more books. The Dave Hunter goes very nicely through the workings of a Princeton starting at the input jacks.I totally get what your saying. The understanding what the components are there for and why and what they do is the important thing. The reading will just be a bonus to what you have learned. Thanks guys.Ive been reading a bit more each day.Mikey
