just took my newly built dumble #!24 to the guitar store to check out what it would sound like with 4X12 marshall cab with greenbacks
It actually sounded incredible!! I noticed when going through a drive pedal some microphonics only when using the dive pedal. So I tapped on the tubes in the back they really didn't ring however the tapping could be heard transmitted through the amp. So when I got home i changed the tubes for 3 NOS smooth plate mullards tapped on them and they were quiet as can be.
So here is the bummer the tube that was microphonic was one I got on Ebay
it is a 1952 NOS Brimar that I paid way too much as I didn't realize the auction was in pounds not dollars
So here is the dilema the tube still sound amazing would you keep it or return it? Should a tune be completely quiet when you tap on it? I watched a video on you tube where the guy taps on the tube and it just keeps set sustaining ringing . where mine you just here the tap or minimal ringing when going through an overdrive? Interesting this occurs with the overdrive pedal even at low levels? Do you ever use rings?
Agreed, move it down the line and see if it's still too noisy. I love EIs and a few of mine have been too microphonic for position 1, but have been alright further on. The JJ ECC803s can be a bit iffy in position 1 as well. I only worry about it if it causes problems IN USE.
On the other hand, if the tube was guaranteed non-microphonic, and keeping it too long would void the guarantee, you might want to decide quickly.
swapped them out for 3 NOS Mullards
I am in heaven also tried my "brown Rabbit distortion pedal"
with the amp for the first time. There were some ringing overtones
I have never heard come from my other amps almost made me cry.
