Ampco tube amp

Post by M Fowler »

Anyone seen one of these? Ampco, Hill amplification Minneapolis MN

Traced the circuit but didn't fill in the values. Nice full sounding amp with 15" speaker. The guys plays in a blues band and said it gets so hot the chassis is too hot to touch. Well I ran it off and on for two days and didn't find it heating up?

Maybe the guy's just playing 4 hour sets or something. After a few hours I can see that thing cooking an egg, especiall with the 6L6s beneath the chassis, enclosed in the cabinet. I think that may even explain the warping of that board in there. Luckily my 5b6 as well as all my other builds have the tubes upright and I don't really worry about heat flow.

On another note, am I right in guessing that this thing goes back a few decades? Those look like blue Mallory PVC caps. I've almost bought a few in the past on Ebay for a TW build but couldn't ever find a complete set of proper values.

I really dig that grill cloth too!
