Anyone had any pleasant experiences with this Fane? I ordered one over the new year and was disappointed to find such horrible cone cry that I sent it back. I tried multiple cabs and amps and it was always the 15th fret high E as well as a bend on the 15th fret B where chaotic oscillation would occur into endless feedback... Not pleasing feedback. Overall, I actually liked the tone. It was much more snarley and rude than my Elegante and I liked the differing shades of alnico, but no way was I paying for a recone.
For a $300 speaker I wasn't at all happy, but haven't had any luck finding someone with the same experience. Could I have gotten a dud??

I have one in an open backed 1x12 cab and I have no issues with cone cry. I only use it with a 15 watt Lightning clone though no pedals either. But when I play that 15 watt head is usually all the way up!

Did you get it from Tonic Amps or somewhere else?

I have two that I had in a 2x12 hiwatt cab....did not experience any cone cry
I don't have that cab any more so I'd like to sell them (oops...maybe I'll put them up in for sale)
Anyway, I got them from Darin.....fantastic speakers but they need power to make them sing.

Don't overthink it. Just drink it.

I got mine from US Speaker and got great service... You hope and pray for that kind of thing when sh#$ happens. I actually used a Dominator I built primarily and was AMAZED by the drive for a small amp, but like HeeBGB, I play that thing at full tilt 99% of the time.
I got a little agrivated when I found out a place in Austin deals them too. From Jersey the shipping was considerably more. I think I'll just be sticking with ASW as I am in love with my Elegante and newly acquired Crossroads. Very friendly and helpful there too.

Re: Fane AXA 12" Alnico
I hate cone cry and haven't experienced it with my AXA12, even when used singly in open back cab with an overdriven Fender 75.
What I did notice is that it exhibited hard compression above a certain input power level, even though it's quite sensitive.
My guess is that the mag circuit saturates at about 25 watts sound power.
Whereas my Celestion Alnico Gold does exhibit cone cry but doesn't compress as obviously; compared to the AXA it has a much livelier tone.
