The best value bypass cap on a champ style amp.
What the best value cap? I think that stock is 25. Thanks!
Re: The best value bypass cap on a champ style amp.
Anything you like! Totally up to you. I can't hear much diff from 5-25mf even w/ a 12", but I haven't run a champ through a 4x12 or a 15". If you're using an 8" I wouldn't worry much, but btw .68 - 4.7mf you can use ~100V films which is cool. Try with both singles and HBs and them find a sweet spot with the speaker you'll be using , bet you settle on 25mf.

25u unless you need relatively more highs/less lows. Then 1u or 0.1u.
If it says "Vintage" on it, -it isn't.

thanks! I'm just running it into a 8 inch ceramic.

You really need to find out what YOU like. I found that I go for a 10uf. It gives a full bass response, but tightens up the bottom just slightly.
If you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to be a horrible warning.
Re: The best value bypass cap on a champ style amp.
is a 25volt alright to use or do you need a 50volt?
Re: The best value bypass cap on a champ style amp.
You only have 1-2V on those preamp tubes.
Re: The best value bypass cap on a champ style amp.
WHat is your resdon for not going stock? What are you hoping to achieve by changing the value?
Throughout the years, they have pretty much always been 22uF or 25uF, and most end up staying that way. Of course there are tinkerers, and we probably all qualify. But you need a goal in mind before you start tinkering, or you won't know whether or not you have achieved that goal.

I believe the OP is referring to the output tube cathode cap (plus there are no bypass caps on the preamp tube Rk's :^). I'd say 50V minimum.rp wrote:You only have 1-2V on those preamp tubes.

I think he means V1, no? It's not on the schematic but it's reportedly on every one built. Sounds totally lame w/o it, and it sounds terrible w/ one on V1b which was never meant to be there. But if wrong, then what sliberty said, there's no point messing with the output tube bypass cap at all, really.
on V1a I think the OP should leave a 25 there or try a 4.7 / 63-100V film (as that's about the physical size limit) and then go play the shit out of his Champ.

You're right... I never noticed that before! The '57 Champ reissue has a 25u 50V there, but I agree 25V is plenty.rp wrote:I think he means V1, no? It's not on the schematic but it's reportedly on every one built...

We still don't know which location you're talking about...rockinmac wrote:i have put a 25uf and i like it. i just couldn't get a 50v at the time so i put a 25v in at the time and i was just wondering if i should change it out or just keep it in there

oh sorry. V1 cathode bypass cap on a champ
Re: The best value bypass cap on a champ style amp.
I use a switch, 2.2uf - no cap - 10uf, it works great. Just get a mini toggle, on-off-on type. middle tag goes to ground, one cap on each outside tag (watch the polarity with electrolytics), run both caps to the upstream side of Kr.
