Wow - overwhelming response. OK, what I meant was "try to talk me out of it and I'll see if I end up feeling bad enough to forget about it".

Maybe y'all are right. I never saw this as a collectible amp because I've known it personally since about 1976, and my buddy used it because it was all he could afford. We always thought it was a pain in the butt and the only way to get the sound he wanted was to run a couple effects boxes into it. Since then, of course, I think differently about good tone. I do remember that the only way that amp sounded good to us was to crank it all the way up, which wasn't always practical for us.

My buddy checked out in the early 90's and I ended up with the amp, and it was in a state of disrepair. As far as I remember, probably the OT was toast (and maybe the output tubes) because I'm sure it had been turned on w/o a speaker connected. I was always going to fix it up, and even ordered a new OT, but never ended up doing anything with it.

Then I got into amp building, and I saw it more as a source of vintage parts than a vintage amp that should be restored. So right now, it's not much more than a chassis, iron, and a warped eyelet card w/ mostly only the original resistors left. Also, my buddy was a bit of a "handyman", and he cut the original combo cab down into a head, and re-wrapped the original brown Tolex back around it.

My latest thought was that since there's not much left of it, and it's not in original (unmodified) condition anyway, that it could easily be given a new life by using the chassis and iron as a starting point. But I understand (really, I do!) the value of refurbing it back to its original glory. But personally, I would rather spend my limited time building something new anyway, so I guess I would be proud to see one of you skilled refurb artists have a go at it.

So what should I do? Gut it or trade it for Bluesbreaker iron?

Ham a Marshall frontend in there and play that thing!

I am lazy but I like a chopper. The deck is almost ready to go! Hell I could have it screaming by dinner..

Dinner? Well, maybe by dinner tomorrow. Here is a little better gut shot that shows what we're up against.

Yeah, I know. I should have my hide tanned for what I have done to this amp. But it has quite a few children made from the robbed parts. Happy, loud, screaming children.

What do you want to trade in return for the complete Pro package so I can restore?

Choices:

New Mojotone JTM45 chassis with faceplates.

New Modulus JCM800 chassis with faceplates.

New Ceriatone Dumble OTS chassis and faceplates.

Woot! Throwdown at Pro gulch!

Mark is in first position with a solid offer of something that sounds like 800 robots from another dimension a whatyacall it and a Humble Overpie.

Copyrights. Yadda.

OK Mark, now you've got my attention. Shoot me a PM. I didn't really intend to strike any deals, just get some input on a project idea, but I think maybe this is the best thing for the old Pro.

Yeah, Mark stopped me. I have lots of crazy ideas. It's a good thing I don't act on most of them!

Mark, I've been having poor luck with the PM's on this board. Let me know if you don't get the one I just sent, and I will give you an email address.

Yeah CR I think it is the best thing for the old gal. Turning that thing into a pair of EL34's would've been too easy. And probably wrong. I'll get my Bluesbreaker without shaming the old Pro.

RD, you'll have to arm wrestle Mark for the faceplate now. I trust he will do a bang up job with the refurb. Can't wait to see how it turns out!

Thanks Guys for all your input on this. Leo would be proud.
