Holy mother of god, this is one of the best Little Wing's I've ever heard. ...

I'll offer a differing opinion. I say the following at the risk of coming off as a completely ornary old bastard. My impression is that Little Wing was recorded right the first time. Even though Jimi changed that song several times before the first recording was done. Jimi's recorded version is a masterpiece and it's HIS. This live version(or any other version), not so much. Doing Little Wing in this way is just so overdone, predictable, and unartistic. It's like making your own copy of the Mona Lisa. Well making your own copy could be very educational, but why show it in public? The solos are vanilla. Kinda like OK it's your turn for sloppy seconds, thirds, fourths, etc... If I was stuck onstage for that song and someone passed me that solo slot, I am pretty sure I would decline. What else could or should be added to a masterpiece? Maybe the problem is that I've heard so MANY versions of this song - all of which fall short of the original. It's a great song, worth learning for so many reasons - chordal/lead combined approach, melody, chord changes, tone, lyrical poetry, dynamics. But it is a unique and original artistic statement. Once you learn it in the privacy of your own home, never play it in public. It is one of those songs that you can't make your own. At least I've never heard anyone successfully make it their own. It's a form of desecration IMO.

In the posted version, the guitar tones are very good. Nice tones and clean playing throughout - for sure. Overall, it just sounds like a rehash and that someone made a bad, on-the-spot song choice. Tomo and Matt don't look happy at all about the situation to me, but they made the best of a bad situation IMO.

With all due respect to everyone that loves that video or any other cover of Little Wing.

I don't know IMO I think SRV did a fine job with Little wing. While the one here with Gales,Schofield and Tomo don't float my boat like Jimis or Stevies I don't think its too bad.To each their own I guess. Chad

Maybe the problem is that I've heard so MANY versions of this song - all of which fall short of the original.

I personally prefer Stevie Rays version to Hendrix original. His playing is so emotive and heartfelt it make me want to weep. A bit like some of Peter Greens early stuff.

Overall I agree though, they took a good song and messed it around.

Excellent show.
Real good band, drums and keys good players.
Schofield plays very very well. Very tasteful, plenty of nods musically to his influences, great tone, real control over his sound. Edge and drive controlled from guitar and by touch, with pedals used tastefully.
He used the rig shown on his website.
Seems to be a very nice guy. He and his band very gracious post show.
Glad I went-good show.

It's been a good week for seeing guitar players for me.
Matt Schofield last night, and last Friday night we went up to a small place, 300 seats or so, to see Albert Lee.
Also, just a tremendous show. Terrific band, great repertoire, and absolutely pisser guitar playing. All phases of his playing are beautiful, his rhythm playing, just the way he leads the song with the guitar, and of course his soloing. He absolutely kills.
The same post show graciousness also-very sweet and humble man, talks with anyone.

Yeah Schofield show was killer. Our seats could not have been better. His playing is top notch. Great control of a lot of different tones. That Two Rock sounded great and I liked the choice of pedals too! I was really digging a couple of the solos, he is a fantastic player, man he can tear that strat up.

That venue is cool. We were happy to support a nonprofit too!

Tele, I wish I knew you were going I would have worn an Amp Nation t shirt or something flashy... I was with a real pretty blonde, maybe you saw her. Hehe
