Suggestion for a build using another old PT

Post by LeftyStrat »

I'm going through iron and either selling it, or trying to figure out something to build with it.

I have a Merit P-3155 with the following specs:

400-0-400 @ 200mA
5V @ 3A
6.3 @ 6A

Perhaps a pair of EL34's or KT88's? Maybe a tube rectifier to drop the voltage some.

Plenty of heater current for as many preamp tubes as I could imagine using.

Any suggestions? I have a Dynaco A470 and a C354 choke that might be nice mate with it.

Sell it and use the proceeds to buy something you can actually use: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tube-Amp-Power- ... 1092314251

Where are you going to play a 2x EL34 amp? Besides, with high B+, you will need 500v or 600v rated caps, which will be both larger and more expensive.

Good luck!

Not intending to hijack the thread, but I am in a similar situation:

Heyboer PT-660

330 - 0 - 330 @ 300 ma
5v @ 3a
6.3v @ 6a

115 v primary

What amp(s) is it well suited for?

TIA :)

Isn't that close to what the Dumble ODS uses?

I didn't think about the caps. But if I can get $50 or so on eBay, that seems like the route to go.

I have a couple of other beasts that have no markings, guess it's time to set up to test all of 'em.

:?: Everything!

5F6A for starters so that means many Marshalls and pleanty of Fenders. My 5C8 voltages are spot on with 330V. I want to build a 5B6 now that Fowler and that Colonel Mustard guy started the rave. That specs 350V but I want to use a 5AR4 in mine, I'm kind of bored with exact copies for the moment. 330V would be perfect for that. Is it really 115V? Bummer cause then it's really ~350V with 125V. That's a bit high with 5AR4's but good 5U4's. And there's nothing wrong with ~470V on EL34/6L6s anyway, even though the tendency I see on forums is to go lower these days.
