expensive but worth the extra $$$ ???

Someone have try The Mercury Magnetic ?
Keep in mind, Mercury prices directly off the site are retail and resellers (should) offer a better price.

FWIW, I have Mercury's TW set in my PCB Express project amp. Sounds great. I will be posting that amp for sale as I am building a traditional Express and Liverpool.

Of course. Use them all the time. I've purchased so many, that now I get them for about 1/2 of what's listed. Still spendy, but worth it for sure.

I know it is a bit late to comment but I just swapped OT's in my express.
I swapped out the Pacific OT for the Mercury Magnetic TW OT and I did like the change.
It was not a night and day result but rather the Merc sounded a tad smoother and rounder to my ears while the Pacific was a little more aggressive and sharp.
It kind of reminded me of Glen's video comparing his two Express amps which both sound KILLER!
Was on better? Depends on your taste I say.
I'm more of a smoother OD kind of guy so I put the Pacific in a Badcat Hotcat clone and called it day.

Just my $.02

Mercury TW OPT is 5.2k. That might be the difference you're hearing.

I've got marstran tw transformers in my express build. They do an output transformer, I've got one. My express sounds good. Haven't tried any other transformers tho...

However, I will note that my transformers came with pre dented bell housings, a bit poor for a boutique type transformer. Also my ot buzzes when the amp is running flat out. Also a bit poor :/

FWIW the MM OT has both 5.2k and 6.6 and I did use the 6k6 and found it smoother than my Pacific 6k6.

My bad, I wasn't aware of the 6.6k tap.

interesting liking MM TW OT's better then the pacific's.. i like MM's stuff, and alot of times it sounds better... but, they do always have a sort of plasticy sound sometimes that bothers me.. not organic, woody, like im looking for... smooth though for sure... they always sound "big" though.. maybe ill give it a try and compare to my heyboer express iron
