Cheap guitar fun

I enjoy taking these cheap Squier Infinity Blonde Tele's and having my friend level the frets and dress the fret edges on the guitars.

They play great and sound good. Changed one to a Broadcaster type pickguard single bridge pup. I'm going to find another one of these guitars and put in two humbuckers.

Cheap fun.

I love teles.
Lil 59 in the bridge sounds great.
Combine with a Hot Rails in the neck & you've got a screamer.
Someone put a pair of regular humbuckers in my old tele (before I got it)
No brand names on them but they sound killer too.

I gave my two son's my Fender Tele's so I had to replace them with something so I decided I liked Blonde even if they were Squier's.

I'm thinking of getting about two or three more to put HB and Filtertron pups in for fun.

Funny enough I have the same pickup combo (Lil 59 bridge, HR neck) in my main gigging guitar and love those pickups too. You can add a LOT of versatility by adding a series/parallel switch to the neck. Or, if you get on-off-on dpdt switches you can have series/split/parallel. My typical setup is neck in parallel and bridge in series, but if I want a smoother highly distorted tone I kick the neck on series. I use the bridge in parallel too for spanky clean tones or if I want some more touch sensitivity with a certain amp or pedal.

Love those guitars Mark! I remember some Squiers that sounded better than the old American Standards back in the day. With a little setup as you have done, these can be stellar players. And you can have more than one at a price point that keeps the Minister of War & Finance (wife) at bay. Win win for everybody

I agree Dave, I paid $130 for a used one and $179 new at Best Buy for other.

I do amp work for my friend and he does guitar work for me, nice!

Love those pics guys! I gotta post some pics of mine. I just picked up a Hamer Tele last month.
I work with two custom guitar builders here locally, so I can trade work to get some wonderful setup work done. Looking at some Lollars right now.
I have a Strat with a 60th Anniversary (MIM) neck, locking tuners and EMGs... $135 invested even with a deluxe Levy strap. I think I like it even more knowing how little I spent.

Here's my entry.....mid-late 80's Squire (Japan parts assembled in Korea) that plays as well as any USA I've played....$150 at the local pawn shop.

If you look closely, you'll see a hole in the "horn"....there was a strap button there when I got it.....somebody had it set up to play left-handed, but still strung "normal", just flipped upside down.

The cheapest guitar in my closet came to me a few months ago. A beat up Squier Jagmaster. Paid $70 WITH hard case, which I sold for $40, netting me a $30 guitar. Installed coil split pot, and after a good setup, it plays really well. My only short scale guitar (24"). I like it! Played it a LOT up until a couple weeks ago, when I got this Gibson SG 1961 reissue. Ahem.

Wasnt the jagmaster a signature model for gavin rosedale? came out around the same time as the courtney love venus and kurt cobain jag.


Its funny gavin played a jazzmaster nothing special but they were on a kick to cross bread guitars thanks to the grunge fame of the day. Wish they would have done a mud honey mustang or mike mccready jaguar.

I have that same guitar just got it back from my guitar tech, plays wonderful as well. I actually like the stock pups on all three switch positions.

Here is a photo of my 1978 The Paul I've used since 1980 $200 purchase
I put the cream pup rings, switch plate and pickguard on it, newer faded LP, and recent Burns Hank Marvin.
