My new Mark IIc+ preamp (PCB layout available)

Post by bancika »

Hi yall,

Just wanted to share my latest creation. It's another IIc+, but this time I went for two-channel version using relays to switch channels. Also, I built it on PCB to make it easier to share the layout and inspire people to build their own

There are no electrolytics in signal path or power supply, only used some in relay supply. Also, I used two russian 6N2P-EV military equivalents of 12AX7 and one JJ ECC83 sandwiched in between (thus the socket adapter).

You can find schematic and PCB layout together with more pix here http://diy-fever.com/amps/mesa-mark-iic-pcb/

very quick clip with my Mini homemade LP ( http://diy-fever.com/guitars/mini-les-paul/ ), will add more soon.

Still need to finish stained maple shell for the chassis, will be done soon, but it's fully functional.

Btw, there's plenty more clips from the first single-channel build here http://diy-fever.com/amps/mesa-mark-iic-preamp/

Greetings from Serbia and happy holidays

Bane

That looks great bancika. What are you doing with the signal after it comes out of the pre to get the recording? Also any pedal infrront?

There's nothing in the front on that clip, although I use MXR overdrive to boost and add more "liquidity" sometimes. After the preamp I have MXR 10 band EQ, TC Repeater delay and then my homebrew 3w poweramp. That's recorded through palmer PDI and 57 mic clone.
cheers

Is that 3w PA a clean PA with most/all distortion in the pre? I am not familiar with the mark II so sorry for the basic questions...

yeah, that power amp I built to be sooper clean when I want it, but it also has LND150 boosted channel that can get a tad dirty...something like blackface or along those lines

If you do a patent search for your name you will find the holder is one R. Smith, and he calls you the "Patentizer". Oh yeah..

recorded some clips...

Little bit of Dregs

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s0oZdqoElg0

First some mindless riffing metallica style

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dsooRtjMdiU

and something different that reminded me of my Trainwreck build from few years ago. Very dynamic sound, cleans up completely with volume knob and has some balls when cranked all the way.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5dO1W8DJbDE

and some Satch action
