I modded a M8's '59 LTD RI bassman last year, with a couple of simple but effective mods:

1) a Mojo OT; and
2) a 100pF speed-up cap in parallel with the NFB resistor (to kill the ice-picky-ness)

I chucked a pair of Russian 5881s (6P3Se) in as well

That amp sounds like a million bucks now.

It would sound like 2 million bucks if he ditched the crappy RI Jensens it came with. (If it were my amp I'd've stuck Weber (10A125) speakers in).
He who dies with the most tubes... wins

that's a good one :D

May I suggest:
Giro de Italia 1:
Separate the cathodes on V1 and if you will use 12AY7/6072:
V1A: replace R7 with R7A=1k5, leave C1 as is
V1B: add new R7B=3k3, make R9=270k, add C1B~330-680nF (this not so much for gain as it won't change much, but for better defined mid-focus)
You can also try 5751 with the values above, if the 12AY7 has not enough gain for the misanthrope.
Try jumpering Bright & Normal channels.

Giro de Italia 2, mountain track:
A Dual Pole 3 position switch directly after volume pots:
pole pos 1: Normal channel V1A cascaded into Bright channel V1B
pole pos 2: Standard configuration
pole pos 3: Bright channel V1B cascaded into Normal channel V1A
It may seem complicated but it's rather simple to do. And cheap too.

No, but she hated us all. She used to say, "I hate crowds. They're made of people.".

I didn't understand what she meant back then.

Thank you Aleksander!
Something like the Marshall 1959 one wire mod.
Good idea!

Reel, we have to start a thread about teachers...
I had a professor of economics at MecEng that, if anyone dares to breath during the lesson, cried: "You, rude assholes!!"
Once we tried to explain him that both words together were at least an oxymoron, but with no luck...

Man, I had friends that went to Catholic schools.

Boy did they have stories.

Nuns can be very mean spirited.

12AY7 as V1 is the 1st thing to imo.
and clipping off one of the two 20uF caps at the V1/2 node (from top of my head)

Thank God the ltd. cabinet is truly better than the old reïssue one.

After that it's all up to the customer and his budget.

transformers are lousy, caps too and be sure to replace the tubes

even without using excellent caps/resistors and going ptp it's certainly possible to better the tone and feel of those amps

I did some trials while the guy was playing, and he felt in love with the 56k on CF and tonestack. After the 10k as tail resistor and a Sylvania in V1 he said it was perfect.
