Volume pot open

Post by tribi9 »

The volume pot on my 5X3 is acting weird. It worked fine since i last messed with the amp about 2 weeks ago.
The pot is not turning the volume down. So at any point in the rotation thw volume is the same. At first i thought it was a grounding issue so i touched up the terminal joint that joined the pot terminal onto itself. I tried it and it worked fine for a couple of minutes but then it started doing it again, so then i ran a wire from the ground terminal on the pot to my common ground bypassing the casing of the pot. It worked again, this time for a few hours but then it started happening again. Tried a different pot same thing.

What do you guys think it could be?

Cheers and thx for your time. :)

I would guess that the wiper is intermittent.

Time for a new pot.

I did try a different used pot, could it be my luck that both of them are bad?

Could also be a bad ground (loose) or broken/intermittent wire.

Yeah, i think it was a ground issue. Used the bigger iron to put a piece of wire between the terminal and the casing then ran a wire to a common ground. Seems ok, hopefully this time for good.

Thx so much for the input.
