Martin and Mark: thanks for the details.
Seems to me like you are showing examples of earlier and later 2204s, going by the voltages, unless I have understood this wrong.

I think I would like to go for the "browner" lower ~370v level. Marstran or Mercury it seems for the PT. MC's PT would put it at about 490v unloaded.

Rog, MC has a new part number comming out with lower voltage taps. From MC:

> 120/220/240V, plate winding with 560V CT, 625V CT and 690V CT. It
> will also have a 5V rectifier winding.

Kind of covers the whole range, eh?

Well that looks like a contender! Good find Martin!

Ordered the chassis and reversed faceplates for a tubes down build from Modulus, along with some other hardware.

I hope the MC PT will be available in the New Year when I get this project going.

I'm thinking a British Racing Green head cab with gold plexi faceplates, knobs and top grille, will sit nice on my trusty 1x12 extension cab which sports a Cannabis Rex at the moment.

Love the idea of British Racing Green with gold reverse engraved faceplates. What color for the controls labelling? And more important, what knobs? Maybe it deserves something other/better than a generic Marshall knob.
Looking forward to seeing it in all its glory.

Yes I like the idea of the British racing green too, that will look great.

Why the tubes down version for head cabinet though? Just to be different, that I understand well :)

After sleeping on this I think I am going to build a combo cab, so I can deck it out with some nice grille cloth.
That way I get to add my extension cab when needed.
Also allows me to get another speaker for the combo. :D

The faceplates are gold with black lettering. As I am not too fancy a person this will be fine. Also the generic gold and black knobs.

I am looking for the Marshall flavor in sound and look.

Probably look more like a Matchless combo in BRG though 8)

Coincidence - Mikey (ampmike) is making me a 60's spec Marshall head cab with thick British racing green tolex.
If he doesn't post a pic, I will.

Great I'm looking forward to reports on these two great amps guys, my favorite a JCM800 and 50 watts is more then enough.

I started on my second version this one is using Modulus JTM45/JCM chassis a mixed chassis allowing you to build either model by using different faceplates. I had a mirrored faceplate made so in combo format tubes down the input is now on the left side. This allows me to follow a standard layout no more reverse building, whew, that is easier.

Even on Marshall top control combos it's just like Mark did, except the plates aren't even mirrored, they just face the back. :)

My sickness has gone to the next level where I need chassis and transformer sets kind of sitting around in case I wake up in the middle of the night. Last night I couldn't sleep and I found myself reading about Dumbles and stuff.. I don't even want one of those! I'm crazy!

I'm right there with you Miles I can't sleep and only think about amps, many, many different types. The trouble is I stocked up on chassis, iron and cabs, terrible disease. :)

Exactly! I am lucky to have bought Classictone output for this last amp and loved it. Depending on where the chassis for new-new builds come from I think I can make good stuff and keep the costs down in the hobby range. I need to move before I do it, but I need bigger tools at the house. :)

Me three. Sometimes really late at night when I've already laid in bed for an hour I will get up and start pulling transformers off the wall and figuring out what I can use for what. It's a disease really.. Look at all of this crap, disgusting.

And FWIW the 100W silverface PT and OT in that picture are being saved for a Dumble build.. And I don't even want a Dumble. I feel like because I have this transformer set, I'm obligated to build one.

The A3801 isn't for sale ;).
