rivera thirty twelve transformer? Blown cap, it lives again

Post by jestaudio »

anyone have any idea who makes the rivera transformers and where i could source one from, i have a lead on a combo with a blown power transformer, i suspect there will be other problems but its point less pulling the trigger without a source for parts

Two suggestions:

Check to see if there is a manufacturer's code on the tranny OR

Call Rivera. Paul and his son are good guys to deal with, and I've never had any problems ordering from them.

I can't find anything on that company. If you can find a schematic for the amp, you could probably figure pretty closely what you need in a transformer.

OR, again,.. call Rivera and see what that tranny will cost. It might be no more than an average generic replacement PT.

well i opened it up a few hours ago, bearing in mind i went from the sellers description i may well be in luck, it looks like the first smoothing cap has failed, leaking fluid and blown the fuse, possibly explains the smoke the original owner described, i'll pull the board tomorrow to check for any other damage and cross my fingers

Replace the resistors in line that may have been weakened during the let go. It's often easier while you have it open than doing it twice.

Congratulations they are great amps

Dropped a new cap in and checked on my limiter, all good, tubes in, checke again, limiter out switch on, the Rivera ;ives again. Still needs a full recap and a good service but sounds good.
Great score for me , £120 for the amp, £30 on new caps and a couple of hours work.

Roughly 30 dubloons or 5 pieces of eight.
60 beer tokens in real money.

If anyone ever has this same problem, I wonder if they will think to search for "Applegate" as a key term?

Gold dubloons and pieces of eight handed down from Applegate..

damned word/song associations. My head is swelling.
