Supro "Thunder Bolt"

Post by RoadstarII »

Hoping someone can help me out. I have a Supro Thunder Bolt that got a little noisy. Cleaned the pots, while it was open, I noticed 20uf cap was leaking so I replaced all filter caps. Voltages are within 2volts of schematic, but I lost a tremendous amount of volume. Any thoughts?

What do you mean by "got a little noisy"? Hissing, crackling, buzzing, white and pink noise, and loss of power etc can be a symptom of failing output tubes. Have you got a fresh set of output tubes to sub in? (FWIW, if bad output tubes have got to the point where they are really bad, they can take out other bits of the circuit like caps, screen resistors, OTs etc when they fail absolutely). Not saying for sure that that's what the problem is - just going by the information you have provided to-date.

Also - what are the idle voltages (all B+ supply nodes, plates, screens, grids, cathodes)?

OK, went back to check my work. Everything is correct. Noise was gone after cleaning pots and cap job. Noise as in crackling and scratchy.
As for voltages; at nodes, B+ 397v, to screens, 388v, to voltage divider, 342v. V1 pin1, 235v, cathode, 2.1v. V2 pin1, 206v, cathode pin3, 1.8v, pin6 167v, cathode pin81.4v. V3 & V4 plates, 393v, screens, 391v. All heaters, 3.2v
Yes, all fresh good tubes. Thanks for your time

Then check for cold solder joint (reflow joints nice and clean) or loose socket pins (that need re-tensioning)
