ROCKMOD I tube preamplifier

Post by xtian »

This just arrived on the bench. No manufacturer markings! Full, black epoxy treatment!

Has bad hum. Will check tubes first. But had to post for you guys. No hope of a schemo for this guy, I'll bet.

Beautiful! "Refer servicing to qualified personnel" - like who? A dentist? A bone surgeon?
Was it really made by him? scroll down to Rockmod III  :!: :?:

Well, that's some "boutique" for you.

Yes. All Kasha amps I've seen have some pretty substantial goop mojo going on.

I can't believe they require you to register to see the prices of their products.

Fortunately a new set of tubes made it happy. Next step would have been new filter caps, and the have no markings!

Old amps don't die, they just come back to haunt you.

I was just given a dead ROCKMOD I to check out. I had deja vu, but a really mild case. I started Googling, landed on this thread, and realized...I had posted about this exact amp eight years ago. My OWN ZOMBIE THREAD!!!

I think the switching system is dead. I get signal on all the pots, but no signal makes it to the output jacks. I left a message for Kasha, but not holding my breath.

IMHO, epoxy treatments amount to a statement that the maker has made something that's easy to copy, and is willing to make the product impossible to service to keep a few potential copiers from seeing how simple it is inside. There really aren't any magic jewels inside a tube preamp.

In re: dentist. Dentists and friendly vets can sometimes be persuaded to Xray a board for you. Just saying...

Good to see you back Reel, hadn't seen any posts lately and thought you might have succumbed to the 'rona.
