Small community effort: Dumble 183 BOM

Post by Ang3lus »

mostly parts from Mouser, I'm pretty sure it's complete but would love if someone would take a look at it, after searching for a BOM, i made my own based on Tom's and Joost's parts list, and also my own list of parts.

there are some extra resistors just to be on the safe side.

if someone can chime in and complete this parts list it would be greatly appericiated, and then we can have an "official" BOM for everyone to have :)

I'm surprised nobody checked this for you.

I did a brief scan of it and the only thing that jumped out at me were the trimmer pots.

The ones you have on the BOM are 10mm, very tiny.

The ones that are more authentic are the CTS ones with the blue wheel.

I like the 15mm Piher trimmers with vertical adjustment.

But if you are using JBorders boards then you have to use what will fit.

Here is a CTS Trimmer, not sure if this is the right one.

Thanks Tom

mainly i'm doing this for everyone, so they won't have to hunt for parts, as in my experience, that is the most annoying thing.

Yeah I remember when I built mine.

I had about six Mouser orders!

To the uninitiated, Mouser is pretty formidable.

Just in case you missed it, at Mouser there is a feature called Project Manager.
You have to be registered to use it.

After you login, check under the Services tab at the top of the page.

Then you can add components to the list by choosing add to project instead of putting them in the cart.

Hope this helps.

Edit:
I just checked and it looks like they just added a new feature called BOM Tool.
That may work even better than the project list.

Noticed you have a Fender Twin style OT on the BOM
I believe you will want to use a Plexi style OT for the EL-34's in 183.
Thanks for the hard work

Excuse me while I chime in here,
but are 1/4 watt trimmers stout enough?

I know they work, and it depends where they are used, but if the other resistors are spec'd at 1/2 watt minimum, why does a trimmer get off so light?

Bourne trimmers can be had in 1/2 watt and up.

Maybe I'm being too cautious...

TIA

Bob

Depending upon which triode in the PI you might see 8-10mA max, commonly around a third of that. All the PI trimmers that I've seen in Dumbles, whether Piher, CTS or CS are all less than 1/2watt , most are rated at .25 -.3 watt.

Hi Tom,

I use Mouser for my electronics manufacturing company, and even being initiated, Mouser's website is User Unfriendly or should I say counter-intuitive.

Mouser's search feature leaves much to be desired. If only Allied Electronics was closer in price to Mouser. Try and locate the least expensive parts or a part by name (Lead Tip Jack) will occupy you for hours.

Blessings to all those who post bills of materials or have part numbers for resistors ect for Dumble and other builds.

Best Regards,

Steve

PS I now have to source transformers overseas instead of purchasing at Mouser as the Chassis mounted non-PCB leads are no longer a stock item, i.e. a special order item (1000 piece minimum, 10 week lead time). after 6 years plus ordering thousands per year.

I just finished my Mouser order the other day. Even with the tricky ordering, the speed at which the stuff comes to the UK is amazing! It shipped on the 16th, this evening it is in Paris, France ready to arrive at my door by midday Friday.

Shipping is free on big orders, duty paid too, all I pay is the UK sales tax called VAT, which I pay at purchase so all the FedEX guy does is drop off the box.

Compared to the USPS mystery tour, weeks of waiting, costs added in the UK, this is heaven!

I tried using the BOMs that were available to order parts, and much as I appreciated the effort (I've even posted one myself...) I found the easiest way to get to what I wanted was to type "68K 1W" into the search engine and filter my way down to the part I needed.

I ended up getting the layout, splitting it into sections and boards and writing down each part on a good old piece of paper, marking it with different colored dots depending on whether it was from Mouser, AES or something I had in stock.

Do any of you use Digi-Key or is Mouser a better choice? I've had good experiences with Digi-Key in the past.

The Mouser order just turned up one day early!

Unfortunately the power /standby switch I ordered from the 124 and 183 BOMS are wrong, 80s/90s BOM part # doesn't exist.

691-6FA5Y-73 is off - press and hold on.

Any one know what the best power/ stand by switches are ?
I looked back over my past orders and always seem to end up with different ones, they all work however. This is from my own BOM -691-2FB53-73. ANy good?

Except this one

Yeah those are mini switches.

I think most guys use the larger Carling switches for power and stby.
