Mojo,

In all honesty...the mods at the LPF are a little over zealous in booting people. It's a little better at TGP but not much. I don't know about OFP or Birds and Moons. Most of the other forums will allow you some leeway in defending your position. We try not to let it get out of hand though. A lot of people that frequent the boards get offended by all the nonsense so in an effort to not offend the people we DO like we try to keep it civil with the people we don't like. It doesn't always work but we try anyway.

Have you tried registering at the LPF under a different name and email address? I can't see how your question could have been offensive to anyone but I will say i know people that are disgruntled (to say the least) with the LPF and sometimes go over there to troll. They have unlimited email addresses available to them somehow. I don't know if that happened to you but it's possible.

Maybe we could answer some of your questions here?

I have a 1999 R7 Goldtop with RS wiring kit and WCR pickups BTW

There was a point in this thread that I did consider closing it, but I wanted to watch the conversation evolve. While the name calling could really be left out there were some interesting points that were raised and I did not want to thwart that. I guess I'm more for freedom of speech in forums somewhere between the Gear Page and Harmony Central, which has way too much trolling and flame wars.

I brought this thread up with some friends who are not involved with playing music. There were two interesting points that they came up with that brought this into perspective. First, they could not believe how seriously we take this hobby with discussions about cap brands, resistor types, etc. Secondly, they could not understand how pictures would cause a flame war. They brought up the analogy of taking pictures of a car's engine and how that would not cause any fuss in the auto world. They thought they schematic should be more of a reason for the fuss.

Yes, the morality standard is really high here as is among other amp builders and those stompboxers. Sometimes I'm amazed. Many other genres not to speak of industrials are nowhere near this. What is possible will be done no matter what.

Well,

I did call Mr. Fischer, but I had to leave a message. His answering machine says that there were several Turkeys outside of his house Yesterday, He has reported them as terrorists and had them shipped to Guantanamo bay. I'll see if he returns the call, but I don't expect him to.

Well,

Much to my surprise Ken did call back, He said don't worry about the turkeys it's all taken care of, just be sure to make your contribution to Amnesty Internatonal! As far as the pictures go he said he's not really worried about it, and that it's kind of expected with cloners and such. He also gave me better times to get ahold of him so i plan to call him back and discuss the issues further, and I also want to get some insight on AC30/Rocket amps, maybe I'll come out of this thing with some helpful info!

Way to go Funk, that's good to know. From what I gather after reading stuff Mr.Ken Fischer has wrote, and things writing about him He seems like a hellava good guy. So I was suprised to hear other's say that he would have been so uptight about someone cloning or taking pics of one of his amp's. Anyway I would like to apoligize to the member's here and to Omar for my actions I took in earlier post. I will try not to take thing's said by other's personally as I have refrained from on other amp forum's that I am a member of. Again thank's to all here for such a great forum, Chad

I missed the whole thing!

I gather we have two less members, but as we are all here to share our experiences in building and modifying these amps, perhaps they weren't pulling their weight in the forum. So many members here have forwarded photo's of their build, circuit variations, and MP-3's of their amps. I think above all we have been honest to each other which is important.

Lets keep building amps!

P.S. Was I flamed?
Yours Sincerely

You didn't miss anything Mark. The two missing members claimed to know KF and that his wishes were that we not post pics of real Express amps. We know now that they don't know KF as well as they say. Funk spoke to him directly and he is not too concerned about it.

Now back to our regularly scheduled program!

So I just got off the phone with Ken, WOW!! What a fantastic guy. Basically he said that he wishes that someone would have asked him before the pics were posted, but he's not terribly concerned "Whadeva" was his actual comment. Then we talked for 3 hours about cooking the soup, and what he basically said is that he has no problem with people building his designs for their personal use, but just don't expect them to sound like a Trainwreck. He said that some tech friends came to his shop when he first got sick to try and help him build amps, they used his bench, his parts, his solder, and had him there to ask -And the amps they built didn't sound like a Ken Fischer Trainwreck, and he couldn't sell them.

It was all interesting, I told him about some issues I'm having with an AC30/Rocket I built, he gave me some ideas of how to fix it, we talked about amp designers, and how particular amps through history have a specific sound that can be attributed to the designers of the amps, how little things can make a difference, the difference between the Heyboer transformers and the pacific's, and that in the last 20 years he's used at least 10 different transformers, and the ones in his personal amps aren't even a recognized name brand. He told me about the repair days and having people come into his shop and wait while he fixed their amps, having 200+ amps to work on stacked in his shop back in the 80's. He told me about the Kendrick Climax debacle, and how that whole deal went sour- I plan to talk to him again, he is by no means short of breath!!

Funk
Thanks for posting about your conversation with Ken. This is really interesting stuff. Can you get into more detail about why he said that the clones will never be a real Trainwreck? Do you sense that he is saying this to keep the aura about real 'wrecks? What did he say about the Kendrick debacle? I have heard stories about this.
