I noticed that and added a 10k off my bass pot to ground...PAB still didn't work. Maybe I should up that to 150-180k?

Chip
I switched with the OD and FET relays that are working and no go.
One thing I do notice is no voltage on the other side of the diode on the PAB
relay...OD and FET relays have 6V on both sides...wondering if this is normal? Wondering if the relay board I made is crap...might see if Jason has any left.
CHIP wrote:Darrin, I used an on-on switch for R/J switch. Looks wired correctly. Faulty relay?
Darin, I wire and jumper the on/on R/J like #183 and the PAB has always worked. I was always under the impression that if you wire it like you have it, you have to use an on/off/on switch. In the layouts, 102 is wired like 124 which uses the on/off/on which places the PAB mini switch function at the R/J switch. Look at the #183 layout to see the differences.
Also, the bass resistor values isn't an issue, in my "004" I'm using a classic stack with 1.8K tail and it functions fine and you proved it's not the relay board when you switch them and found the same result. I'm almost 100% certain it's the way you have it wired.
Aaron did this nice layout with the PAB relay configured as you have it, maybe this will help.

Thanks TM
I'll give the 183 style PAB with the jumper a try and report back.
I think I also have a on/off/on switch I can try.
Aarons layout is really nice thanks.
Very much appreciate the info.

That's weird. For my #102 build I'm using an on/on for my Rock/Jazz and have it wired just like 102/123 (as per my layout). Everything seems to work. Of course I might just not know what it's supposed to do when it doesn't work.

I'm a little stumped on this simple wiring (or lack of)problem
maybe when I can get the jumper on (like 183) or a on/off/on switch
I'll know more. Taylor had mention his was not working like
he thought it should on his 2nd/3rd gen build. We used the same layout.
Structo wrote:Are you sure your relay is wired correctly?
It looks like the white and purple wires going to the relay are backwards.
Tom
did that to see if it would make a change...

I for one feel that most here that have successfully built a few of these complicated amps has the experience to guide others through it...
Hopefully gaining more experience a long the way.
Thankfully you and others here also have the patient to help.
Appreciate your time

I don't mind helping anyone and I learn something new every time I build one of these, there's so much to learn with all the different circuit variations. Also, I like look at other builds as well, there's always something to learn. I've been forunate enough to do a few builds and along the way, even more fortunate to have help from guys such as Tony, Brandon, Gary, Andy Fuchs and others. I try to share what I do and along the way, maybe give something back.

Aaron,
AFAIK both 183 and 102 layouts are electronically wired the same with an on-on switch.
Just an update...
got the PAB relay working...my foot switch jack wiring was wrong
I wired it like the 124 with a 3way switch, PAB is really nice with clean and OD.
I got the loop voltages more in line also...both loop pots have pull bright caps.
I need some hole plugs for FET and fuse. Chassis is a little more work,
but I would use the 4 hole again.
Cab is maple with mahogany front
I have a matching 1x12 in the works
will post when finished. Amp is a real treat to play.
Some pics...

Darin,
Any updates to this build? I've been messin with mine.
I had a nice NOS clarostat 1MA that went bad, finally I understand why that wasn't working. So finally my 1MA clean master works again. I like the clean master still! I'm starting to think that pot was causing all sorts of noise!!
Tonemerc sent me a few extra resistors to flavor the NFB. I reduced the NFB to 2.2k and it added some really nice chime. I couldn't turn it up too loud though...gotta wait until the neighbors (and the wife)go to work tomorrow. Muhaha
Im not getting much action from the tone stack, which I think is odd. How well do your controls work?
