I have an amp that through testing and such, seems to be doing some conduction...its strange. Anyway, stupid question. Is this common or if I rebuild it on a new sheet of G10 (from the same sheet), could this happen again? I'd hate for that to happen. What a waste of time and turrets, etc.
Or should I buy new sheet, or wire point to point?

I had a problem with some leaky G10/FR4. I assume that some static-resistant FR4 got mixed up with the normal stuff. The internals of the material have some strange conducting properties, but the faces seem non-conductive.
I wouldn't ever try to build a circuit board with that batch again. But it does seem ok to use as insulating backing boards.

Interesting, mine is black garolite as well...safe to say, I will not be using that. What a shame I have another preamp and poweramp board completely built from that stuff! That is costly...and I'm sure McMaster won't take it back.

I wonder if the coloring is achieved using carbon black?

My guess is still that there was a mix up and some G10-ESD was labelled as standard G-10.

Whether it's carbon or not doesn't really matter to me. It's all useless for building circuits on.

Interesting. I guess it is worthwhile to test the stuff when you first get it. I normally use the green stuff, which I've never had a problem with, but I just got a large sheet of the reddish g-10.
If it is carbon, that could lead to other problems as well, since it can cause reactions when in contact with some metals, like stainless steel turrets/eyelets.

If they sent you the wrong stuff you need to call them and assure them they must take it back - theres no way for you to know they screwed up till you cut it up.and I'm sure McMaster won't take it back.
I have a lot of experience with unacceptable business situations - I would say call them up - tell them you aint ever ordering anything else from them unless they can fix it - that almost always works.
If it doesnt then they get game 2.

Briane i understand your point but i ordered this batch almost a year ago and have been screwing with it forever, so its just not worth my time. I'm too busy amd stressed enough from my work. Amp building is supposed to be fun and therapeutic. I just want this amp sounding good and working finally...

Your call to the seller need not be confrontational. One thing is for sure, that you'll never get something if you don't ask for it. Call them up and tell them the plain truth, including how long ago you ordered it. Just ask nicely if there is anything that can be done.
Notice the careful wording. Do not say, "What are you going to do about it?" which will set the other person on the defensive. A simple, "Is there anything that can be done?" is enough. If they say no, just tell them how disappointed you are and that you expected a product that meets your needs. Allow for some silence. They might offer, or not. That can be the end of it.
You get more with honey than with vinegar. OK, you choose whether to make the call. I understand you don't want to ruin the fun of what you do.
On to the color black, these guys use it: http://www.turretboards.com/circuit_boa ... ptions.htm so there must be some of it that's just fine to use.
On a personal note, I like the red swirl. It looks great. You can write on it with a Sharpie.
