A new Princeton is born

Post by sliberty »

I completed building "Brownie" just this morning. It is a little non-standard, in that it is a 6G2 model (Brown era), but I used a Blues Junior style cabinet, so the panel is on the top instead of the front. Speaker is a JBL K-120, and the power and output transformers are bigger than normal for this amp. The result is that the amp doesn't get mushy at high volume like some Browns and most Tweeds. Fat, sweet, and she sings when cranked up. I also paralleled a .1uF cap with the .02uF cap in the trem circuit to slow it down to my taste. I am really happy with the results. Only thing left to do is install the back panel to cover the chassis.

Thanks everyone. I am hoping to install the back pane today, and then I can really start enjoying the amp. As is, I am worried that my kitten will snoop around in back and get electrocuted :)

looks great!

good move with the back plane - cats love tube amps. Not sure what thats all about - maybe its the heat. Maybe Egyptian Pharaohs had Marshall stacks.

The chassis is too big, it almost looks like you did not have to struggle fitting everything in. Time to add reverb. Just kidding, nice.

Haha. You're right though - I have big fat hands and like room to work :)
