5C8 Phase Inverter Type

Post by rp »

Reading up and learning. Is it a Concertina or Floating Paraphase Inverter?

If the later without a signal generator or scope how would I know if it is balanced and working optimally? I understand the 6800R is important here, I'd guess the individual 6SC7 would matter too. Roll that PI tube?

Paraphase. See: http://www.freewebs.com/valvewizard/paraphase.html

To check balance you'd need a signal source to feed into the input while you measure voltage across the power tube grids looking for zero (equal but opposite drive). I think it's best to measure DC volts. To play with the balance you could adjust the 6K8 resistor to ground, maybe by replacing it with a 10k pot, or replace the 250k-6k8 combination with a 250k pot, which you could leave in place as Merlin suggests.
