Seriously, im done with them. I have a 200W iron going together with my regular iron and after like 40 min of work, I ended up with 2 ugly uneven looking grounds. Solid but they look like crap. From now on I think Im using ring terminals and bolts and nuts with star washers for my all my grounds.
I can solder pretty decent otherwise. Maybe I just need a bigger iron?
I fought this battle the other day with a Fender brass plate that was soldered to the chassis at three points. I ended up ditching my 180W soldering gun (which was doing NOTHING) for a big butane torch and lots of flux. It got the job done but the original joint ended up being as ugly as the factory original.
My dad found a massive 300W soldering IRON that I've been wanting to get from him. I can't find the picture he took but it looked like it was about 2 feet long with a 1/2" tip. Want!
I agree; F*ck chassis grounds. Attached is two pictures of how I ground amps. The solid state power amp is a proper ground; two nuts and star washers. I am also a big fan of star grounds.

This Weller Marksman 120W iron works pretty well on chassis'. Nothing else to use it for, though (unless you are a plumber). They make a 175W version, too.
