Twin Reverb build

Post by M Fowler »

Got a chassis from a Tag member, got head cab from Tony A. and circuit board from mikey.

The surplus Fender board had weird changes to it so I used BF AB763 specs and wired up the amp using MC iron. Using my Super Reverb pan for testing.

I love the tone of this amp should be fun to gig with, maybe this Saturday.

Forgive my poor wiring on this one. :)

Mark, compare your work with this (almost) original '79 Twin I just recapped. The crappy PI mod to BF specs was NOT done by me, it's terrible, but it works, so I didn't touch it.

I think you could call your wiring boutique!

Enjoy it. :)

alvarezh thanks I don't know how some people can do such perfect wiring.

The amp works perfect so I am happy.

Jana, I ordered a reverb pan kidoo :) But if you want to sell one bring it over and I'll buy it off you for a future build. :)

Nice Mark. Very Nice!
I resurrected a 72 Super that had been butchered.
Sounded great. It wasn't getting played so I sold it to a friend. :?
Now I miss it

If anyone can show me a Twin with actually fully tidy wiring, I'd be impressed but looking for snubbers and listening for squeals. It's almost too much wire to have any hope of tidiness.

A lot of respect is due for the mostly mexican ladies with little fingers who used to wire these things up for Leo.
Real quality work, many still working fine 50 years later.
Those AB763 Twins etc are very complex wiring jobs.

Check out the blackface twins. After CBS took over, the wiring was a MESS. That being said, most of them still sounded nice.

Nice job Mark!

Thanks everyone I really enjoyed playing the amp for an hour yesterday.

I was trying to get my wiring as neat as this mojo tone photo shows.

I've seen blackface Twin guts and they're better but still don't look quite tidy to me. It's a lot of frigging wire. And I've never seen a BF as tidy as that Mojo wiring pick Mark just posted.

Looks nice Mark.

The Mojo photo does look good but I would be wary of having the grids and plates all paralleled like that.

Your amp would probably less noisy and more stable as a result of your wiring.

just because it looks good for a photo does not mean it works good

every time I have tried to make an amp look all nice, I inevitably have to go and muss things up to kill oscillations.

plus - no one sees the inside anyway. Function over form :D
