My TrAinWrecK In MetaL

Post by HobbswheresCalvin »

I built a trainwreck express clone. Parts from RJ Guitars.
I have always loved the sound, clarity crunch and the midrange is just sweet.
I play in a band called, A Band Of Orc. You can find us on facebook, youtube, myspace, website. Etc. Check us out. We have alot of fun playing playing metal as orcs.

Anyways. I reciever mixed emotions about whether this amp can be used to play metal. I myself was not sure. I realized i needed alot of gain to get the crunch i needed. So i added a ppimv, worked great...not right away bit after i got it in there correctly. No issues.

I run it thru a mesa boogie vertical 2x12 ive had for years. Black shadow speakers in it.. the amp sure can push these speakers rated at 200watts a piece.

Occasionally for solos and for fast parts with many pinch harmonics i use a distortion pedal, vox saturator. Joe satriani signature pedal. Great pedal. But too much at times.

The other guitsrist in my band uses a LinE 6 Bogner amp. Sort of a hybrid. Not a bad amp. But considering at practice and on stage my master volume is set at 11 oclock and his is set past 2... I definitely cut thru his signal like butter. Even at 35 watts this amp has balls.

Ill upload some sound clips later, i now finally have my zoom h1 back up and running to record shows,
I painted the case to look kinda like steel, or rock, or just something that looks like it has been thru a few battles.

Check it out

Those are not my actual setting, we had the amp on the bench today checking some solder joints, after during practice i was getting some cutting in and out and high pitched randomness. Ended up being one of the power resistors.

Heres a view of how i have it set
Keep in mind the order of knobs is
Gain, Treble, Mid, Bass, MV, Pres

Ya man. It definitely sounds how it looks. I did that paint job with rattle cans. Painted it black then silver, then copper two shades of dark green all in one shot. Before it was completely dry i hit it with an orbital sander. It sanded down thru the layers randomly and gunked up in spots to give it that look

They lend themselves to some aggression, I will give you that!

Hey sorry i havent been on. Been rehearsing and watnot. Very short and sweet story. The singer worked next door to me at the time. I went over and asked if his band mates needed any instrument repairs and he said actually were lookig for a new guitarist. I raised my hand and said very loudly. Oh oh i play guitar. Lol

Ya man its killer sounding. I never have troouble hearing myself. In fact sometimes when they put me thru the monitors i hear too much of myself. I changed the output tubes to some new mesas from the old svetlanas i had in there..and stopped using the distortion pedal. Wayyy cleaner sound. Has a very similar resemblence to a 5150 with more "expression" imagine that haha

The 80watt idea sounds great. But im not sure i need the power. I dont even turn my master up to halfway. Like ever and it breaks up just enough without being too noisy at like 1:30 on the gain. Unless the 80 watter gives me the same sound with less noise. Im noy sure i need it. But ill defintely check out the tracks you posted fowler

Those recordings sound awesome Fowler. Definitely clear what amp that is.

Is there any way those changes can be made to the 35 watt outfit i have made already?

Add two more octal tube sockets, 100w PT and 100w OT.

Probably not worth the effort if your satisfied with your amp right now.
