5e3 tubes reversed
I recently converted an amp to 5e3 specs, except the inputs are a 12ax7 (two 6sf5s, actually) and the second stage and PI are a 6sl7. This is basically the opposite of a deluxe, which has the lower gain tube at the input. What performance change would I see if I switched them? It sounds ok, I'm just curious.
Re: 5e3 tubes reversed
I've done it on the classic style 5E3 and wasn't satisfied with the results.
Turned fizzy, lost clarity.
Normal to have 12AY7 V1 and 12AX7 in V2.

Thanks! I'll try the old flip-a-dee-doo-dah.

Rewired it last night... WOW, what a change! Much brighter and cleaner, and overall just better. Now to track down my new V1 noise problem...
