I've also heard that called a conjunctive filter; I used this on my KT88 SEL to good effect.

Thanks, everyone, for the nice feedback.

Good to know it works :) (1W resistor, actually)

Just to be clear: The 56R / 2uF combination was across the secondary of the OT. When I read 'conjunctive filter', I think of something on the primary of the OT - might just be me! (ETA - I'm sure the function is similar, but the required component values are orders of magnitude different)

Sounds great man! I've built three different 18 watters one was a lite IIb which sounded really good, I gigged it for a few years. Originally I built the 18 watt trem but didn't like it as much, less gain but the trem was kinda cool. The last one I built was a TMB and I dug that one quite a bit, I gigged it for a few gigs before the discs in my back forced me to quit, just to much pain standing and loading gear. It had a lot more gain and had that typical Marshall roar to it.

I used the 125e in a 5e3 tweed deluxe and it really rocks for that amp. I use a 12ax7 in that amp in V1 instead of the ay7 Fender used, gain for days and could get a great feedback by turning it up and standing fairly close, I used Lucille on that one and it was a great combo. On my 18 watt builds I used a blackface deluxe OT which worked really well with the EL84's.

Anyway great sound and enjoy the build you did a nice job on it! :D

Regards,

Don

Ps: I'm not much of a lead player, I generally play rhythm, but here is the tweed deluxe, listen towards end for the controlled feedback. This was done in my apt rather loudly, but not crazy loud:

Very nice looking amp. I love the Lite IIB; I have made three of them, although after the first one I started adding things. One had an additional preamp channel from a Blonde Twin and that is a GREAT amp - much more versatile than the stock Lite. Then last week I took my original Lite and added a second gain stage to it; it's rather like Doug Hoffman's Stout or the Dirty 18 now. The amp now has more noise issues than it did before, but the distortion is so much nicer that it has become one of my favorite amps. Here's a link to a demo clip of this amp with the additional gain stage: https://www.box.com/s/fae02ff11862bce0a99e

A note about trannies: I have used the 125E but I find that with the Lite you really get much, much better results with over-spec'ed OTs. One of them I built has a Hammond 1650F, which would seem like total overkill until you hear it; that sucker is LOUD as well as sounding very good. The amp in the sound clip also has an overbuilt OT but it's from a controversial company that went out of business and they are no longer available. I'll just say it's roughly equivalent to the 1650F in specs.

I really like the look of your amp.

I am certain that this amp would be louder with a heavier OT, but it's such a sweetheart right now that I don't regret a thing.

Thanks for the nice comments, guys.
