Lower Voltage
Am i correct in assuming if you run lower voltages in a amp, say for example 260-0-260 rather than 290-0-290 you would end up with lower main output , i would also assume by adjusting the dropping string the preamp section would remain realtily unaffected

True enough; output power is voltage dependent, but I doubt you could hear the difference between 260-0-260 and 290-0-290. Preamp gain, on the other hand, doesn't change much with voltage (unless the differences are huge), but preamp B+ does affect headroom, so if you want to preserve a particular sound, you would want to adjust the dropping string.

I found in my AB763 that I needed to go to a 5U4GB to get any significant voltage drop so I had a low "browner" B+ and a higher "Super" one on the diodes.
My GZ34 is a Mullard and puts out nearly the same volts as the diodes
I use JJ 6V6s so no problems handling the power, the PT is also 200mA and could use 6L6s if needed.
Versatility, aint it great?
