Depends on your goal. For the scooped fender sound a fender TB or TMB tonestack is great.
A 6G6B bass channel tonestack is awesome but requires a couple of dual-triode tubes to implement.
The bandmaster tonestack is cool too. Then there's the voigt, the james, passive Baxandall.
I built the attached amp (dubbed '6H3') about a year ago using Merlin Blencowe's 'Bone Ray' stack - essentially a Big Muff tilt control with a midscoop/hump shift control. The scoop end provides more of a classic big muff scooped control, and the hump end of the rotation is excellent for heavy distortion.

Thanks Tubeswell I just went through Merlins pre amp book and will probably go with the bandmaster tone stack for right now . I like the look look of the bone ray stack and will try it in the future.
