A few parts questions in prep for 102 build

Hello,

I'm planning a 102 build, and have a few questions about parts that I didn't really find definitive answers for in the search.

First, it appears several people have found the NOS Piher resistors to have a nice smoothing effect on the sound. Searching on Ebay I've found 1Watt Pihers to be pretty expensive and hard to come by in certain values. Are there any places in the circuit where 1WATT CFs are called for where a 1/2 watt wouldn't work?

Also, I've found that it may be easier to get Iskra, Beyschlag or Allen Bradleys in some values. Are there significant sonic differences between all of these?

Second, I know this topic has been done to death, but do you think this coax would work well for the shielded runs in the amp (the 5020 stuff from the link below)?

It's 50 ohm, .195" outer diameter, 28.5 pF/ft, and about $0.36 per foot from Redco. It seems fairly close to the characteristics of the stuff used in the original amps and is pretty cheap too.

Parts can be swapped later, Try the build with parts readily obtainable(while gathering any NOS parts for later)Then tweak to taste.Nos is a opinionated thing...Although I have grown fond of old tubes
Many have tried different shielded cable, try the redco stuff maybe some others too.
I think the general conscientious is to use known component values,
watch lead dress and get voltages close to specs of particular circuit.
Then make an offering to the tone gods and hope the build has "got the goods"....Then build another...repeat

Thanks for the suggestions Darin. This is my first D-Style build. I've rebuilt a few Blackface Fenders and did one scratch build of a Single Channel Super Reverb in the past, but nothing quite as involved so it's definitely a challenge. I had planned on using my old Quad Reverb as a donor for iron and pots. I figured I'd just go whole hog from the get go, but I can definitely see the wisdom in just buying the Xicon's from Mouser and swapping stuff out if it doesn't turn out the way I'd planned. I guess I saw that Feedback City thread and started salivating.

Having your seasoned iron is a great start.
Mouser has a few brands that guys have used successfully... kwiame CF, IRC MF, and the Vishay/Dale MF which a lot of the builds here use for the preamp plates.
As far as the Feedback City amp of Tony's...well I'm convinced
he has access to some sort of voodoo magic pixie dust...or maybe
just his knowledge and experience not sure which

I'm still sourcing parts for this 102 build. My Father-in-law sent me home with a bunch of old parts last night. Amongst them were a bunch of these:

They don't look like much but measure dead-on. I'm guessing they are some sort of ancient military 1/2 watt carbon film, but I can't find anything out about them on the net. They say Wilkor Carbofilm on the sleeve. Anybody know what they are? I was thinking of using this for the 24k in phase inverter.

More intriguing though was this:

There was just one in the lot he gave me, but he said he had a ton more that he was going to try to find. The date code is 6630. Anybody know how to decipher it?

Those blue resistors are a great find. They're Elektra metal film and would work great for plate resistors and cathode resistors. and also in other places if you choose.
See if your Uncle has 220k, 150k, 2.2k,3.3k.
