I don't get apple lovers...you get three year old technology in a nice wrapper and 4x the cost. Everything is proprietary, even connector cables. Want to hook your mac to a tv? First buy our apple $30 converter connector that is only 3 inches long, then buy a standard cable because three inches is not long enough to connect to anything (unless you're ok with your computer hanging in mid-air from the side of your tv). Apple macs don't even have a delete key (its backwards functioning) nor a network cable port. The face that you don't have a separate pad and button means you cannot operate your mac with one hand easily. What a POS and don't get me started on the ipad....thank goodness I won mine. My wife used to love apple until I started showing her its deficiencies. Why you have to sync PICTURES with iTunes to move photos to an ipad makes no sense! Oh wait, sure it does because now apple owns all my photos. Need a new battery? Time to mortgage your home. Ahhhh, apple...i can go on for hours and will stop there! I will never buy an apple product unless it comes from a tree and will chuckle internally at anyone I see with one hee hee.

Yeah, the way I think of it is a PC is sort of like a hotrod.
You can customize it and add aftermarket parts easily and build it to your specs.

I find most Mac users are not as technically inclined and just want a machine that will work 90% of the time.
But if you want to upgrade the machine, you better get your wallet out.

Oh, and the thing about viruses, if Apple garnered over 70% of the market, I think you would see more viruses written for Macs.
But Mac users sure like to gloat and their favorite pat saying is, Should have bought a Mac..........

As it is, the PC kiddies get their kicks from infecting the systems that run the world.

I found where they hid Steve Jobs. I have a plan.

Mac trojans and virus are here, just not on TV yet.

They always existed, but the market share of Macs was so small 10 years ago, that most virus writers (13 year olds) didn't bother. They like to do a lot of damage, so they went after PC's because there were so many of them. But now that Apple has been gaining market share significantly, they are a more interesting target for these little snot-nosed kids.

I hope hacking gets upgraded to be more on par with terrorism for all of the damage it causes both to people and property. I think a lot of 13 year old punks smart enough to hack might also be smart enough to reconsider their proclivity for destruction if it were legal to send a SEAL team in to clean house upon discovery.

Surfsup,

I have been an Apple user since the 80s. You make valid points and I agree with your gripes from the perspective of someone who is fairly tech savvy. But..

Exactly. And if I built one, it would be running Unix!
I find most Mac users are not as technically inclined and just want a machine that will work 90% of the time.
Make that 99.9% of the time. Most people are just folk, not IT specialists, nor do they have any inclination to invest in that knowledge (and shouldn't have to in my opinion). My beef is not with a PC, it's just hardware, it's the half-tested, kluge bloatware that passes for the standard operating system (Windows). Microsoft's classic MO is to put out a "new" version of Windows which still has many of the same, unresolved issues from the previous version. And because it's a new version, they force enterprises to "upgrade" in order to maintain their infrastructure; passing the cost onto the consumer.

Finally, here is why nothing that you or I think about this matters. We can argue about the merits of each till we're all blue in the face but the only thing that matters is what the Market thinks. Here is a chart of Apple and Microsoft stock prices for the last 20 years. It's clear what the unwashed masses think about PC vs. Mac:

I built my first PC. Bought the board, the power supply, the box, 640k (expensive!) and a pair of floppies. Amber monitor. It cost about $1300. Then I added a color card and an NEC monitor for another $900 or so. A twenty meg (not gig, meg!) hard drive cost $269.

Pazaaaz man!

I just got tired of keeping up with it. I bought the Apple because I was tired of Hewlett Compaq and their way of hosing their customers. Then there's the Windows platform. No matter what you do, you still end up slowing down over time u n t i l y o u j u s t c a n ' t g e t a n y t h i n g d o n e.

Like I said, I'll go back to PC after I've gotten some more mileage out of this MacBook; although I might be able to get enough out of it used to get a pretty swifty PC book of some kind. My HUGE disappointment is the complete lack of graphics capability with the MAC. The common wisdom was that heavy duty graphics users all went to mac years ago but this turns out to be a lie. My nephew is the absolute number one commercial graphics guy in Northern Nevada and he uses the latest core whatever PC and Corel. It's just amazing to watch him work.

As long as we're hosing Apple can we let loose on HP and their damn printers? F**k them and their horse too. I need a recommendation for Canon or Epson from somebody although I suspect my problems of late are Mac to HP printer interface when HP designed for the PC. Still these bastards are definitely NOT in the printer or customer service business. They are in the ink business. <--- That's a period right there. Retired guys gotta wait until the end of the f**king month to print shit.

Too bad we can't go back to pen and paper and a ham radio set. I guess I'm just getting too old.

Piss up a rope.

Go back and put the splits in for MS. Your chart don't mean much. Apple has kept their stock price artificially high. The recent increase over MS market cap has to do with the Ipad for sure.

Yeah printers for the Mac platform suck badly. I have a cheap Canon MX870 and the software is just dismal. You're absolutely right about those jerks being in the ink business. Funny how you get about 6 color sheets printed on a new set of inkjet cartridges before they dry out and the low-ink warning comes up. I gotta give Canon's tech support a nod though as they helped me sort a rather vexing wireless networking issue.

Oh heck yeah! I despise HP (which platform doesn't matter to be, I am an equal opportunity despiser of all things HP). I could go into all the reasons I despise HP (all the crappy experiences with them and their crappy family of bloatware products), for fear of using up ALL the pixels on anyone's HP monitor (which might have time stamped pixel life ..... like their time-stamped, planned-obsolescent ink cartridges).

I have an Epson inkjet, and Brother Laser, both hooked up to my Mac system. No problems at all. Plug and play.

Hate for one does not denote love for another. This is like politics for me. Plenty of hate for everyone to share.

My pad is still doing that thing where it hangs up in itunes so you can't buy anything. Blessing to me in a way, but what is this thing good for? An oversized phone without a phone that hoses itself out of spite.. I guess.

The phone app is fun though. Hey ya'll! I'm from Boston!
