Lower powered Asteroid question

Post by KellyBass »

Hey folks,

Sorry if this topic has been previously addressed...I've been out of commission for a bit with some health issues. All better now, so time to finally get back to building!

I've been wondering if anyone has attempted a lowered powered 50 or 60...something more in line with the Xpress...which is 36wattish (if my memory serves me right).

I've got the 60 info and I've been staring at it for a long, long time. I guess I missed out on the 50 info, but I have been reading the posts. It sounds very interesting. Any 50 info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks very much!...nice to be back.

Kelly,

The Komet amps run the voltages up pretty high compared to a Trainwreck, while the output tubes can be the same. I sorta think the Express is crazy loud and not that different from the Komet in that respect. They are just different beasts but both of them are beasts. I know that a couple guys here ont he forum were talking about putting together a triode output Kometish amp... maybe they will speak up and give us an update??

Because of that hot power tranny in the Komet, it's hard to say what will happen if you drop the voltage and maybe even consider a pair of EL84 output tubes??

Hi Kellibass

I tried an express (k60 stile) with PP triode Output (ecc82). Its a nice small rehearsal amp. But no more express. you can not compare.
