The PPIMV actually has a worse problem when feedback is applied aroun the power amp.
The feedback will actually fight the PPIMV control, making it somewhat ineffective as 10thTx states but also stressing the PI and causing early overload of it.
Use a pre PI Master Volume or delete the feedback loop.

Ian

Well, now I have a knob that does nothing. Maybe I'll add a smoke machine. Or I could just label it "TURBO" and put some LEDs around it.
Relax. It's SUPPOSED to smoke a little.

Or, you could "get a big piece of aluminum and put a bunch of holes in it and use it for "breadboarding" new amps. Seems smarter than taking a chance on ruining a new chassis every time. Actual breadboards don't seem too useful for tube projects. You could put five or six noval-size holes in it, plus at least five octal holes, and you'd be ready for nearly anything."

I've used a number of PPIMV's on different amps with no issues at all.PPIMV stressing the PI and causing early overload of it.
Two of my amps currently have PPIMV's with one of those having NFB. Played it that way for a long time and it sounds great.
Here is a sound click of that amp & it sounds fine to me :

I personally would not hesitate to use a PPIMV on a Little Wing, but since the NFB is rendered somewhat useless, you could just leave it out if you wanted. You could always add LNFB similar to the Dumblish builds if you wanted to.

I'm going with "TURBO." And the Turbo setting will go to TWELVE.
But thanks for bringing up an idea I had long after this chassis was built.

As noted on another thread, I got this thing debugged. Now it has a singing tone that is just incredible. It has a little of the Bassman's low end grunt, but not all of it. Wonderful amp.
