Just finished up subject for my German born brother-in-law and it came out very nicely!
Starting platform was a Weber Maggie. Added a parallel pentode (5879) channel with independent tone and volume controls. Also added some biasing options to optimize for various ouput tubes. I like it best with a 6V6 and a Stratocaster.
A big and grateful shout-out to Taylor at Amplified Nation for the custom designed cabinet. Tight as a drum, smooth as silk (both tolex and tone) and built like a tank. We had to work around some dimensioning nuances and Taylor was right on it from the git-go. Hit the bullseye from 3000 miles away like the pro that he is!
Who'da thunk a 1X10" could sound so huge?!?!
Cheers,
Dave O.

Very nice. Seems like it would be a nice "Grab 'n' Go" amp. How's the weight?
What 10" are you using? I'd love to figure out how to get a bigger sound from a 1x10 combo. I'm trying to come up with something lightweight for my fifteen year old daughter, who's just picking up guitar.

Thanks mate!
Well...I am embarrassed to say that I don't really know exactly what speaker is in there. I made a trade for two 10" speakers ~7 years ago and can't find the notes from the transaction.
I recall that according to the owner they were some type of Weber that he had sent back for conversion to 4 ohm from 8 ohm. One of them is a green P10R and the other is a silver colored unit with no labels or markings. It has a round doughnut'ish exposed magnet but doesn't look like any other Weber offerings that I see at their sight.
The silver unit is what sounds great in the combo. The P10R sounded really badly. So bad that I suspect there is something wrong with it. I did install is carefully to avoid basket distortion.
It weighs in at 30.5 lbs so...not a light weight per se. But..not totally unmanageable.

Dave O.

Well I wish I had a brother-in-law like you.
And SE amps do sound huger with 10" speakers - no doubt about it.

Yep! Family bonds are tight...even if only to steer someone away from the "perils" of solid state.
He had a budget of ~$200 and I had the vast majority of the pieces lying around doing nothing. Not to mention that I had a serious "Jones" to build something unique (for me anyway).
Truth be told, I will be surprised if this gets much, if any, real time in the energized state. He is a PhD chemist/consultant who travels a lot and really doesn't have much time to get serious about playing guitar.
The project was truly a labor of love from many different angles!!
