I don't see how anything that VV said can be a slam.

It's either true or it's not true.

Why don't you call up MM or Hammond and see if they will do the things the VV is talking about?

If those qualifications aren't necessary for you then it doesn't matter.
If they are then it's pretty important..especially if failure to provide documentation means that you can sell your product in the EU.

It's highly doubtful that the voltages found in a typical guitar amp, say up to 800VDC, would be enough to break down the insulation on even the most mediocre wire suitable for coil winding purposes.
This is irrespective of any rating, proper certification or otherwise.

The problem occurs, as you have found out, is when thermal limits are exceeded and the insulation breaks down.
One could rate a transformer at a particular degree (F or C) but this doesn't translate well to an easily definable electrical operating point.

Output transformers are typically rated at a wattage level with some (or a lot of) headroom to allow for a degree of "safe abuse".
A more meaningful rating that addresses your question is "maximum DC current through the primary".

You're missing the point, I fear. I'm not going to spend a second trying to validate what VV asserted. He asserted things that may or may not be true, and his geography was in error. He's the one that's got to show something.

I asked him to prove it with facts and name names. Everything he's said so far does not support his blanket statement that "several US companies don't do this either".

As far as I'm concerned until he comes up with something more it's just another cheap shot.
