I buy the little strip pins that are similar to 8-pin sockets but not. They are long strips of the pins for sockets but you can make them as long as you want by snapping them off after 3 or 4 or 10. So using these, I can insert transistors like inserting tubes into tube sockets. Easily reversible or use that to try 5 different transistors in the circuit. Solder the pins to the board but the friction will hold the transistor in there.
I missed this thread too - I just want to chime in that Brian at Madbean is a superb guy with a great forum. Some of the older projects are available from (keefe) Haberdasher as well. I've built a bunch of them, several are permanent residents on my board. I used to be an amp-only guy, and I still am sometimes, but these are inexpensive projects that can sound really, really, really good.
I had Alf built my Zendrive Overdrive cost $179 and a short wait period that was years ago but worth the cost and wait. Remember when Alf was active on pedal building forums cloning just like us?
I like that the bottom end is strong and that the Fuzz has some good control over it.
Ideally it should be built with Germanium transistors but some report good results using a silicon in T1 and T2 then use the expensive Ge in T3.
I found a deal on three AC176 transistors.
Hopefully the third one will be higher gain as it is the amplifier transistor.
The guy at the Gear Page added a master volume which I intend to do as well.
It will take me awhile to get my parts together so I won't know for a while if it works good.

I heard it was based on an elektra OD that the company built into it's modular guitar electronics.
Now called the "clock of tone", aka COT and Church of tone.
The thing makes we want to sell all my Plexi Marshalls and all my Majors, that I don't have.
Anyone use Veroboard ?
I have seen a few layouts with it and it looks pretty interesting.

I used to do this stomp box stuff in the 70's when Ratshack was the only place in town for parts - (that I knew of). Hell I was 14 then.
I still remember resistors 19 cents a card of five, all pots were $1.09 and that SAD1024 bucket brigade chip was $20 !
I still have my free battery card.
Come to think of it the good old days weren't all that good. That stuff was expensive !
