This build is a liverpool type pre with a 7 ( guessing) watt 2 x 6v6 cathode biased power amp. I had a 269ex PT and 125C OT around and wanted to build a smaller caliber amp. Sounds pretty good so far. needs a tweak or two still. 400R shared cathode for the PA.

will try to post a clip soon if anyone is interested.

Nice looking!

Curious- that PT has a max mA of about 80 ain't it?
I assume thats why you estimate the low wattage. Does the PT not get very hot?

Hey Z-man re tidiness-
If it works well it's good. Looks like you did without turrets too?
Once it's tweaked and in the cab only you will know

Looking at some old PTP magnatone amps on the web now and the wiring is a rats nest still they sound fantastic

no turrets.... need supplies....

BTW the Power trans doesnt get hot at all. The added resistance of 11k6 on the primary and cold biased power tubes make it draw around 50 ma for the whole amp (47 actualy). so the iron is all running fairly cool. There is a vid on youtube of a guy that built a 5e3 type with 6k6 and this iron that made me want to try it.

Have you tried 6K6 tubes? Your PT is 65ma rating & you might like the way the 6K6 tubes sound.

I just recently recording this with 6K6 tubes:

Thanks guys. I am really having fun! I will try to do a sound clip tomorrow before the amp is givin to its new owner. 7 watts is still really loud by the way. I think it might be fun to develope this amp a little more. It really is a nice volume level. Its still a bit loud for home for most people but it would just kill a small bar with no mic. Its just loud enough to make the speakers push well.

10th TX, Nice clip! Great playing! Every time I try the 6k6 they are to dark for me and seem to lack crispness. I am sure I havent set them up right or I have bad tubes. They arnt matched and came from different sources etc. Yours on the other hand sound sweet! Is that amp around 9 or 10 watts? It sounds sweet.

Nicely done Zambo! You're getting great tones as usual. Are you running those 6V6s in Class A push-pull or single-ended?

Thanks Zambo

It's got the sound for sure and seems quite touch responsive the way it cleans up
I'd be curious to hear it thru a different mike . The cam mike favors the hi end it seems

Thanks for looking at it! Its class ab1 push/pull like a normal wreck. I kept pretty true to the express schematic and layout posted here. The only difference is in the pa ( cathode biased 400R) and the overall voltages are way off. Its a bright amp for sure. I really need to get some recording equipment again. I will have a new demo out recorded with my cathode biased 6v6 18 watt amp. I did the whole recording with all the knobs at 5 and bright switch on 500pf. It did clean to mean sweetly. Will post a link to some songs when we get it mixed. Ive never been so happy with my guitar sound. I can honestly say my life has been bettered by Ken Fisher and all you guys who contribute here. Thank you!
