Rocket help - Easy I think

Post by yalesmith »

First, I must say I am not too familiar with chokes and rectifiers...but I did build a tweed once. My problem is I cant get any heater/cathode voltages on the rectifiers, the plates are okay at 294 ac. Aqny ideas?

As far as the choke is concerned, am i correct in thinking that a choke acts as nothing but a big resistor? meaning that it doesn't matter how it is wired up.... do the colors of the leads matter?

I am using Edcor Irons.

Any help would be appreciated.

I don't see where your rectifier pin 8 is wired to the main filter caps?

After zooming in on that second pic I think I see the center post on your rectifier tube....if I'm seeing it right looking into the chassis with the center pin at the top all your connections need to be connected to the pin 1 clockwise of where they are now.....ex yellows on 2 and 8 and reds on 4 and 6 ....your white b+ white wire will be on pin 8 also .. Hope I'm seeing this right

Yeah I can't get a good view but it sure looks like the index is straight up so all the pins are off then.

The first pic is clearer than the second. If you zoom in on that, can read the numbers on the socket. It looks like the cathodes and plates are wired correctly (2 & 8) and (4 & 6) based on the socket numbers. It looks like the tube is inserted incorrectly based on the orientation of the "key". If the tube were inserted so that the key were one spot counter clockwise, looks ok to me.

Except for Mark's point - I can't see where the rectifier is wired to the resorvoir caps.

Mike

It looks like the yellow wires are soldered to pin 1 and 7 when I look at the rectifier socket and yes I don't see the rectifier wired to the filter caps.
