Re: My #102 Review

I am having some success in the "chasing down the bloom department" by increasing the bias in my output section. Tony is running output tubes with 35 watt plates which makes it relatively easy for him to bias up at 48ma's. I am sitting at 135uf on B+1 (270uf in series). I pushed my bias up to 47ma's on my hottest tube, running TAD 6L6WGC's, which is right at 70%. Installed Amperex tubes in V1 and V2 and a GE longplate in V3. I can now hang on a note and at higher volumes , in overdrive, am starting to bloom just before feedback. I think upping the output bias coupled with a lower B+1 capacitor is the key here. Also adding the extra stage with the dumbleator Helps I'm sure. I have noticed this effect in other designs I've built and it seems to coincide, to some degree, with my penchant for driving my output tubes really hard in a high gain situation.

Tony, I'm curious, with my 4 output tubes sitting there idling at 47 ma's apiece I'm eating up half the power of my PT and the amp is running noticeably hotter. Have you noticed the heat out of your transformers?
