Someone told me that he bought some Tesla 3WK 163 40 that are direct correspondent for the VTL5C1 for near € 1.50 each
but I'm not able to find it and the same the person who told me about them
---------
about the mix of LDR & LED, I don't see where is the problem about safety, if the single components follow the rules, putting them together in a circuit doesn't make them to become out law

Thats not the point....
Anything with Cadmium is non RoHS and can not be used for product in EU.
That include Vactrols and LDRs. They are going by by unless it is used for a permanent installation or it is being used for repairs. I'm just saying it wouldn't be a good idea to design new product using LDRs if it can be avoided.
Also don't forget there is distortion (not an issue for most purposes) and the LDR alone or in a 5C1 does have limits on voltages the cell can see. 100V in the 5C1 instance. http://www.alliedelec.com/Images/Produc ... 219695.pdf

Like I said too.....if this is for personal use don't worry about RoHS
Only an issue if you will sell to the public.
I would still avoid vactrols though if you can avoid it, relays would be a better way to go if this is for switching and there are ways to eliminate pops and clicks.
