Looks like a nice fit for a half power rocket. Anyone used this one?
Anyone Used This Edcor OT for 2xel84 Rocket?

I used that for a build but it wasn't a rocket. It was a 2xEL84 though. Sounds very good. Liverpool type of build. I had an issue originally but it turned out to be a HF oscillation that was cured by shielding the V1 input lead. I can't answer what it sounds like for a Rocket though b/c I never played a rocket.

I used an Edcor XPWR156-120/125 for the power transformer, and an Edcor GXPP15-8-5K output transformer for my 2XEL84 Rocket, yeieding excellent results. One of my favorite, and most giged with amps. Lots of headroom and plenty of volume.
I just helped a friend build one using the same PT, but with a GXSE15-8-8K Output Transformer, just to see what the difference would be. We haven't had time to A/B yet as it just got fired up and doesn't have a cab yet.

I'm thinking that if the 15 watter has great headroom the 25 watt version would sound even "bigger"?
Is that necessarily so?
I'm considering exactly the same thing for myself and a friend of mine.
We each want the same amp and my previous "spare parts -lying-around- build" was such a success we now want to do a refined version.
The spare parts amp used a Triode electronics 25 watt output and the amp has huge sound. I'm thinking partly because of the over-sized output.
Thoughts?

The cxpp25-ms-8k is a great transformer, but it's massive for a 25 watt unit. It's physically the same size as the 35 watt unit they build for me, Same basic footprint as the 35 watt Stancor / Heyboer / Pacific / Edcor / etc.
I have recently contracted with Edcor to custom wind a 15 watt transformer built on the smaller frame. It will have a 8.1K primary and 4, 8, 16 ohm output taps. In their typical overbuilt/under-rated methods, I am anticipating this will be a more than enough transformer for a typical 18 watt build but without the bulk of the 25 watt species. I will of course push it into service with a pair of 6V6GT's and test the limits... I don't expect any trouble but have to say that they would probably refer to this as abuse if you were to damage it and ask for a replacement. rj

Just today received confirmation that the first dozen are in the queue... typically 4 weeks delivery time from those guys in recent times - they are slammed with work. If they show before then I'll send you a prompt. I'll probably sell the first few at $45 each (TAG price) and see how well they go over.Markusv wrote:RJ
