High Voltage Doubler- Standby Switch

Post by ToneMerc »

So I'm redoing my high voltage (700/350V MusicMan PS) 100W build. While it works, I've truly never felt comfortable with 710V across the standby switch. I have considered just omitting it, but if i don't I'm pretty sure i'm going to relocate it.

I'm leaning toward the second scheme of breaking it on the cold side facing the screens. Any thoughts?

That is correct you want to break it on the cold side..This is where I have mine and I have no popping issues..

Good Luck!!

Those scare the hell out of me... If you happen to touch the hot B+ you have now replaced the standby switch as a prime ground connection... ZAPP!!!

If you are unsure about the switch, get a DPST/DPDT and use the two rows in series.

Thanks Tony, the cold side it is. I've also dropped the screens down to 150R as well.

Just put a 2KV .01 disc cap across the switch

Henry, that's exactly what I've always had across that Carling switch. I guess the pop bothered me more than anything else.
