It is still only on paper but the state of play right now is a 5879 with a triode switch into a cathode follower into a TMB stack. Cathode biased. The switch has to be fairly heavy duty and I'm trying to keep it away from signal wires. In triode mode it is fairly close to a Beano.
I've got a bunch of amp projects/restorations and as many guitar builds in front of this but I like to sketch in front of the TV so this stage of the preparation doesn't really count as shop time. sh

I would add source follower on IRF*** to drive tone stack, I think that buliding a preamp is a cool thing, I always thought of designing a pcb for such thing, also a cab simulator would be nice too, then pack it all to 1U rack chassis.
