It's interesting that we guitarist/ tube amp builders tend to like polyester caps.
It's probably among the worst dielectric available as far as stability goes.
Real bad temperature coefficient.
It also absorbs water if exposed as well which is why the orange drops are epoxy coated.

Maybe the reason they sound good in guitar amps is that after the amp heats up the values drift.
I have heard many people say their amp sounds best after it has been on for at least a half hour or more.

When I wrote to Terry at SBE (orange drops) he said that the PS series was a relic left over from the tube TV repair days.
The thick film polyester is becoming harder and harder to find according to him so if you like polyester caps you may want to stock up as I'm sure one day soon they will disappear.

I know this may not apply to Sozo or Jupiter or other boutique cap companies but it's something to think about.

This was probably a joke but I know for a fact that the Jupiter caps are hand made in the US. That's part of the reason the cost is higher than other manufacturers. Same goes for their speakers.
What does hand made for a cap even mean?

Does jupiter make the film by hand?

it means they roll their own

I am not sure where the materials come from, but the caps are hand assembled like they were in the old days. They do not come from a factory overseas, they come from a factory here - and its probably more of a garage than a factory.

I have been using the yellow Jupiter's in early tweed circuits (parapahse inverters), Supro ThunderBolts and Ampeg M-15 style vintage era amps. I have a/b them against all current production caps and in these applications nothing sounds as good to my ears as the Jupiters

So it's fine if the materials are from china as long as they are rolled in a garage in the US?

I don't know where the materials are from. I can ask next time I talk to Chris. Or just email him - he is good about getting back to people with questions.

I know that he sources the materials on his own - its a very small company. If his epoxy is made in China, I would not be surprised. But it could be made in Canada for all I know. Globalization!
