Hello all!
I was recommended to this forum by a friend of mine from another forum who is also a member here (Structo). Got an amp problem that's giving me fits, but thought I'd introduce myself before getting right to the begging!
I'm pretty new to amp building. My first amp was a 5e3 four or five years ago. I definitely have the bug! I think I enjoy building amps as much as building guitars (the pace you can work on amps is so fast vs. guitars).
Hope to have some great discussions here!

Welcome John,
He has a JTM45 build that is giving him problems.
I hope the collective minds here can help him.
I don't have much experience with Marshall's other than one 18 watt I fixed.
I'm sure someone will have the right answer.

I just happen to be building a JTM45 now too. I'll be installing the preamp circuit board, transformers, choke and can caps over the next couple of nights, and start soldering it all together over the weekend.
The New Steve H has this thread going on his JTM45 project too:

Re: New member - Hello
Thanks for the warm welcome, guys!
Yeah, this amp is slowly killing me...It sounds good for a while, but I give her the old stress test, and *POOF*...arc on pins 2 and 3 of V4 and a popped HV fuse. It's a Weber kit that I bought as a project from someone else. Lesson learned there...I've replaced the tube socket, tube, impedance switch (it was shorted to once), pretty much everything I can think of short of a new OT. Gotta be some kind of flyback issue, but I can't solve it. Speakers are good, socket's been changed, tube changed, impedance switch is changed...No luck. I think this is the 5th such failure, but I'm honestly losing count. I'll start a more detailed thread about it at some point, when I have the time to futz with it again.
Sounds really good until the fuse pops, though.
