This would be a great amp without the second channel.
Mark,

I never really cared for Tino's way of doing the OD. I ran into issues myself but used a trimmer to find the sweet spot and the amp is stable and does not oscillate even when dimed. The Shuguang octals did sound very good and sang a little more than those old 6SQ7s.

UTC has made some possible solutions to the unknown inductor problem.

The type VIC variable inductors are adjustable +90%, -50% by adjusting a set screw in the side of the case.

The HCV Variductors range from +200% to -70% by adjusting the top mounted screw on the inductor.

For example, the HVC-9 is adjustable from 3 Hys. to 30 Hys. and can handle 5 Ma. The 6J7, in the EH-185, is probably not drawing more than 2.5 Ma.

I have seen these inductors for sale on fleabay.

I have a VIC-13 available that I am willing to trade if you think it would forward your project.

Check out the UTC catalogs on bunkerofdoom.
